Bike Lane Violations in Ottawa
Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but 5!
Prince of Wales, Ottawa, ON
At the bottom of Prince Of Wales, the bike lane is conveniently used as a second car lane. Calls to bi law officers haven't helped.
We're moving
Bay street, Ottawa, ON
driver waiting behind the wheel, not a clue that he parked in the lane.
Beemer doesn't care
Prince of Wales ave, Ottawa, ON
in Nepean, attending a party of a certain political party.
Musical Chairs
Laurier Ave, Ottawa, ON
On the first day of the opening of the bike lane not everyone was aware of the lane yet.
I don't care what you think.
Nepean, Ottawa, ON
A short cut for pedestrians and cyclists alike to get the stores, bus stops or further.
Police car in front of Tim Horton's
Tim Horton's on Laurier, Ottawa, ON
Here are 3 shots of a police car parked in the Laurier bike lane at rush hour (4:35 PM) on Thursday, 23 Feb 2012. I wish I had gotten a shot from the other side of the street, to put the Timmy's sign in full view.
I bet parking illegally makes the doughnuts taste that much better.
Parking in the Laurier Bike Lane and texting
Laurier and Bank, Ottawa, ON
Just pulling over with his hazard lights on. Texting.
Not the greatest picture
Wilbrod, Sandy Hill, Ottawa, ON
This isn't the greatest image I have taken, but it doesn't change the fact that this driver decided that illegally stopping in the bike lane was somehow a better idea than stopping across the street.
Sky High Roofing - On the other side!
Stewart St. at Nelson, Ottawa, ON
Again, you can see the free parking space on the other side. As there is no one near the vehicle, it doesn't look like you really need to park there right now...well it is illegal 24/7 anyway.
On the positive note, notice the other contractor with the trailer down the street is starting to park on the correct side. Thanks!
On Wilbrod again
Wilbrod, Sandy Hill, Ottawa, ON
Motorists, you may think that it is okay to stop here because it is a quiet street. In reality, other motorists tend to get aggressive around here because of all of the stop signs. You stopping in the bike lane does not help things. Aside from being against the law and all.
Look on the other side of the street
Wilbrod, Sandy Hill, Ottawa, ON
I took this shot from way back to show that there is a huge parking space on the other side of the street. I asked the idling driver to not stop there and she just sat there and ignored me. That's right, idling too. Eesh.
Same truck different day
Stewart St. near King Edward, Ottawa, ON
And there is no one around to ask to move the truck. The 'no one around' factor also makes me think that they could put the truck somewhere different when they don't need it.
Only necessary when loading and unloading
Stewart St. near King Edward, Ottawa, ON
This truck has been here quite a bit. I understand that they will have to load and unload that truck and trailer quite a bit, but there is tonnes of space across the street and the driveway of the house that you're working on and blocking anyway is completely empty. Could you not put it there?
You're going the wrong way!
Stewart St. near Cumberland, Ottawa, ON
This one pulled across the yellow line (we normally drive on the right here in Canada) and stopped right in front of me. I slowed way down as I had no idea what they were doing, then had to pull into the oncoming lane to get around. Keep in mind this house that they stopped in front of is beside two different parking lots. Not really necessary to stop there, eh?
Moving violation
Slater and Elgin, Ottawa, ON
Not sure if this is in the spirit of this website, but I thought I would post this guy driving in the bike lane, squeezing me off between him and the car to my right. Yes, he knew I was there as he came from behind me.
What is going on here?!
Mackenzie-King Bridge, Ottawa, ON
Traffic backed up along Mackenzie-King bridge, but for some reason eight (that's right, 8) vehicles in a 200m stretch were crawling along in the bike lane causing me to squeeze between them and the curb. All of this when they all had tonnes of room to their right as evidenced by the people in front and behind them. I can't understand what could possibly make them think this is a good idea.
