Three police cruisers on Mackenzie-King bridge

Mackenzie-King bridge, Ottawa, ON

I've been holding onto this photo for a few years now.

The Mackenzie-King bridge is notorious for cars parked in the bike lanes running down the centre (there are bus lanes on the curb side, for the bus stop on the bridge). One thing that facilitates this is an indentation in the curb that, combined with the bike lane, provides a spot just wide enough to park a car.

Despite the pleas of ignored "no stopping" signs, people still park in these lanes to pick people up and to drop them off. The City has done plenty of studying of this problem, yet the only thing they could come up with is a $60,000 solution--to come from the cycling budget! Even though it's not cyclists causing the problem!

This photo takes the cake, though. Not one, not two, but three police cruisers. Obviously they're parked there to not interrupt any traffic. Because bikes are somehow not traffic.

Go figure.
